Solent Branch Captain’s Report
We stayed on the boat after the Commodore’s Supper, and
woke to a damp, chilly, dark morning, heralding the end of the summer
sailing season. It has been a bit of a curate’s egg of a season. The peak
cruising season was beset by poor weather, strong winds and heavy rain,
disrupting many sailing plans. Association activities have also suffered
with events cancelled or with poor turnout. However on the bright side we
have managed to run most of our events, with some gems.
The Bembridge Beach BBQ and Games was well attended and
is fast becoming a firm favourite with families. The Folly Bop
is popular with our dancing queens . The Osborne House Proms
looks set to be a regular event. Kite flying and BBQ in
Yarmouth was fun although attendance was down. The Gins Farm dinner
was excellent, but the Safari Supper on the
Beaulieu River was cancelled, as was the Newtown Creek rally.
A few enthusiasts made Brownsea Island on the August bank
Holiday. So you who made it - well done!
Racing has been disrupted, with only a few of the
scheduled races taking place; although vigorously contested. The Nab Tower
Race, held mostly in fog was followed by a sunny Sunday in Itchenor.
Thank you to all those who helped at the Premier second hand boat
show in September. Fortunately the weather held all week except for
Sunday afternoon, and the Commodore’s Supper on the Saturday was well
attended at Velsheda’s - the new marina restaurant at Swanwick.
We still have The Yarmouth Fireworks on Monday 5th
November, and the New Year’s Eve Dinner at the Folly on the
Isle of Wight.
Our AGM
is on the 17th November at The RAF Club, with speaker Peter Poland,
former writer for Sailing Today. An evening not to miss, with big prizes,
and Captains Birthday cake.
Hope to see you at the AGM,
Allan Howlett

AGM Emails
It is hoped you have already received Notification of the AGM and details
of the Laying Up Supper by e-mail sent to you personally. This was sent due
to the doubts about this postal letter getting to you in time. If you
want to book, click here for
the booking form.
A number of these e-mails “bounced back”. This could be due to individuals’
computers rejecting it as spam. For those who understand such matters,
please ensure that your ISP does not block e-mails from
“www.moodyowners.net”. Another term for this is “white listing”.
Another reason for non receipt could of course be that you’ve changed your
e-mail address and not informed the Membership Secretary Gabbie Sharp!
Gabbie can be contacted by

But worry not as all this and lots more can of course be found on the MOA
website under Solent Branch. So in these uncertain times keep logging on!
