Captain’s Supper 12th April - Island
Sailing Club
April showers, 22 knots of wind over the deck,
sunshine with a few violent showers set the scene for the sail to
Shepherds Warf Marina West Cowes., where 20 berths had been reserved. In
the end 13 boats were moored in the North basin by 5.00 pm, 2 crews
arriving by ferry or with New members.
After the usual boat visiting everyone congregated
on Time Out in traditional style bringing wine and glasses to enjoy a
pre-dinner drink and nibbles. We also celebrated the Captains re-naming
of his boat Time Out. Champagne was duly ‘arranged’ over the bow with
small speech and then the party continued with Joy laying on a superb
selection of canapé washed down with champagne.

The Young Contingent

7.30 pm saw us sitting down to a very good three course meal at the Island
Sailing club, which occupies an enviable view over the entrance to the River
Medina.
The Captain welcomed everyone to the first formal
event of the season, and in particular to new members: Mike and Joan
Sheperd [Purrfurus], Peter and Lea Bennett [Ruby M] and Ian and Norma
Hunter [Senior Moments] and Ian and Sue Freeman [White Whisper]. It was
also very good to have Trevor and Heather Nicholls [Ossian] old friends
and I believe founder members, with us.

Eventually we were ejected from the club as they
locked up and we departed for the boats. Some continued to party with
some late night revelry others turned in, saving themselves for the race
in the morning.

The race report follows, however it was noted that Dulcibella was seen surfing
down the bow-wave of a container ship, being encouraged by the Harbour Master!
Who say’s that we are not competitive.
