It has now been a full two month since I was elected to the post of your membership registrar. Although it can be time consuming, the work is certainly interesting and is for many the first port of call for many problems and I am delighted to be able help members whenever I can. It has been a busy couple of months, with the distribution of the member’s handbook and the membership cards to those who have recently joined or, for whatever reason, had not paid their subscription in time for the documents to be included with the Spring edition of Compass. One problem is that many people joined mid-year and set their standing orders to run from that date. There are, therefore, a significant number of members who will pay automatically, but later in the year. Perhaps it is appropriate to remind members that the membership year runs from January to January, but the membership cards are not issued until the Spring edition of Compass is published. This gives me time to collect and process all the membership fees and issue the appropriate mailing list to our publisher and mailing agent. Because of this delay in issuing the cards they are dated to run from the first of the year and up to the end of March the following year. This means that any discounts that might be offered to MOA members can be requested with a current valid card, but we would like subscriptions to be paid by early January otherwise it might be assumed that a member does not wish to renew. All this might appear complicated, but we are trying to ensure that we run the MOA in the most efficient manner and at the lowest cost to members. If your standing order is set to renew mid-year, please change its date to the 4 to 6 January so that we can reconcile the membership well before the March deadline.
Most of you will have noticed that we have now introduced a single login for both the Infoexchange and the members' area of the website. New joiners are now being asked to choose a username and password when they apply and their Infoexchange account is created automatically as soon as their first subscription is received. Both existing and new members should use this single login from now on to access the members' area of the MOA website as the generic login that appears on last year's membership cards is know no longer valid. If you have not done so already, to register for this new login mechanism and obtain an Infoexchange account just click on 'Get a single login..' on the left of this page. Please do not use the old login username on the old membership card as your login name as it will not work. If members submit this as their login name I usually simply change it and use their first and surname with an underscore between. The system does not allow spaces, hyphens, @, & and other characters, so please keep to letters, numbers and an underscore if you prefer to separate names.
Please use the link on the left if you need to update your membership details - this makes life easier, since the updates can be imported into the membership database automatically.
