South West Branch Captain's Questionnaire

In my August 2009 News Letter I mentioned that I was now looking at our Events Programme for 2010, our Silver Jubilee year, and to ensure that it meets members needs I would be sending out a questionnaire seeking your requirements and feedback on this year's events.

Background

When I was invited to be Captain of the SW Branch, a task that I was encouraged to do was to establish a programme for members to meet up and to act as a focus for their sailing plans; this is our 2009 summer programme.
For 2009 we put together three sailing events plus the AGM, and recently we have added a fifth with the Cardiff Rally being organised by Peter Satchel.
The SW Branch covers a large geographic area and many members are deeply involved in their local clubs and can spare no time for external activities.  Other members simply cannot, or do not, participate in MOA activities and are quite content with the benefits of Compass and access to our website.    However, many members have said that they would welcome a summer programme, and others have suggested that we also arrange a winter programme for the darker months when cruising is suspended and our boats are put to bed.
For some years we held our AGM in the margins of the National AGM, but last year we held it at a hotel near Burnham-on-Sea.  This proved to be successful and we shall be holding this year's AGM at the same venue.  However, for 2010 we are open to other suggestions.

2009 Events

This year we have already held two sailing events and we have two to go; the next being to St. Malo at the end of this month.  The first of our 2009 events was with the Mylor Yacht Club (MYC) to the Scillies, but the weather beat many of us.  The second event, also in conjunction with the MYC, was last week to the Plymouth Fireworks Competition and Gin Run which proved to be a great event.  In both cases there were MOA members present but numbers were small.  Before arranging next year's programme, I, therefore, need to know what members would like to see in the programme and how many people would support them.  This, of course, is not a request for any prior commitment but simply to get a feel for member's wishes and decide which of type of event would be most appropriate.
