High water Portsmouth is at 1119hrs at 4.3 m and low water at 1642hrs at 1.2m. it is also handy for the harbour to know the BBQ at Bucklers Hardname and length of your Moody so we can squeeze as many in as possible, so please forward those details to me.

Cream tea on the pontoon, Beaulieu RiverWe will plan to have the cream tea served at 1530hrs so don’t have too much lunch and bring a plate and a pot of tea with you!

Gosport Expolosives Museum/ Spinnaker Tower - Midweek meet - 23rd May

Co-ordinator - Allan Howlett

Moody Midweek Big gun at the Explosion Museum

Wednesday 23rd May

Our first midweek event this year returns to Historic Portsmouth. This year I have explored alternative possibilities. I have never been to the Explosives museum in Gosport, although it continues to get rave revues, so suggest that we spend a morning checking it out. www.explosion.org.uk/

Anyone wishing to join us please contact Allan Howlett.

The plan is to arrive on Tuesday evening and dine at a local hostelry. We shall be berthed at Premiers Gosport Marina, where Premier berth holders get free berthing. If you berth at Haslar Marina let me know and we can agree a meeting time and point.

On the Wednesday morning we will visit the Explosives Museum, and then have a late lunch. If time permits then we could cross to Gunwharf Quay by ferry for lunch.

For the evening meal we propose that you join us on Halyards to savour the delights of Liz’s cooking and cakes.

Explosion! is an award winning museum of naval warfare created within 18th century buildings at the Royal Navy's former armaments depot of Priddy's Hard, in Gosport, Hampshire.

The museum is housed in a group of listed buildings, which centre around the original powder magazine of 1771. These sit on the edge of a delightful camber basin on the western shore of Portsmouth Harbour, with views across to Portchester Castle, Whale Island and the Naval Base. Explosion! traces the development of naval armaments from gunpowder to the Exocet missile...but the museum is not just about big bangs!

Nor are the human, social and moral consequences of warfare forgotten - visitors will be provoked as well as educated and entertained.

For those who have visited the Explosives Museum before, then please join us for lunch and or dinner, plans are flexible.

Normandy Dash - 2nd to 5th June

Co-ordinator - John Sharp

NORMANDY DASH – 2 JUNE 2012

The ‘Normandy Dash’ is more of a cruise designed to coincide with the Spring Bank Holiday and the 68th anniversary of the June 6 D-Day landings.  The idea is first to muster in Cherbourg on 2 June for a couple of days, at which point those who have to be back at work ( the ‘dashers’) can head back north.  Those wanting to enjoy the rest of the event then move to St Vaast on 4 June and then on to Carentan in time to be in the thick of things by Utah beach for 6 June. We will spend a couple of days in Carentan and then move further east along the coast to Ouistreham, soaking up the atmosphere of Omaha and Gold beaches and the Mulberry Harbours on route.  The cruise will end at Ouistreham but Bugsy aims to go on to Honfleur and then return to Cherbourg; any and all are welcome to join us.  The itinerary is below:

Red Diesel – A Letter From France from Magali HAMON, Development Manager, Port Chantereyne (Cherbourg main marina)

Following the debate about red diesel in the UK, we would like to reassure you that the use of red diesel carried by British vessels is still very much accepted in France. I have attached a statement about the use of red diesel in France that you can very much circulate and distribute to your members.

I would be very happy to talk with anyone who has any questions about red diesel or about Cherbourg Port Chantereyne, so please feel free to contact me at anytime.

I hope that this statement will help British yacht Owners to feel confident again to cruise to France.

With kind regards,

Magali HAMON
